The Boston Celtics are engaged in talks with the Philadelphia 76ers on a trade for the No. 1 pick in next week's NBA draft, sources said Friday.

League sources said the Sixers and Celtics are working on a trade that, in its current iteration, would send a package of Sixers draft picks to Boston -- including Philadelphia's No. 3 overall selection in Thursday's draft -- in exchange for Boston's turn at No. 1.

One source close to the talks expressed confidence Friday that the deal would go through, telling ESPN: "They are swapping 1 and 3."
Completing such a deal would put the Sixers in position to draft Washington guard Markelle Fultz and pair him in their backcourt with Ben Simmons, last year's No. 1 overall pick who has yet to make his NBA debut due to injury.

The 76ers announced that Fultz will work out for the team Saturday. Philadelphia also will hold an individual workout with Kentucky guard De'Aaron Fox on Saturday.

While it is widely assumed in league circles that the Sixers would target Fultz with the No. 1 pick, sources say Philadelphia and Boston are likewise high on Kansas forward Josh Jackson. Sixers general manager Bryan Colangelo was in Sacramento, California, on Friday to attend a private workout for Jackson.

ESPN's Chad Ford reported Thursday that the Celtics, already flush with a stable of guards featuring Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart, have contemplated using the No. 1 overall pick on Jackson, a forward.

The Celtics already have a wealth of picks in future drafts:

Boston last traded a No. 1 pick in 1980, when it dealt the selection to the Golden State Warriors, who chose Purdue's Joe Barry Carroll. The Celtics netted two eventual Hall of Famers in the transaction, getting four-year veteran Robert Parish and the No. 3 overall pick, which was used on Kevin McHale.

I'm actually trust Danny, I mean he's not in the Belichick or Calhoun stratosphere yet, but he keeps moving up until proven otherwise

But just think how fucking stupid it would be for the sixers to move up and then draft Josh Jackson from Kansas when you could have had him anyway at #3 lol. Makes no sense for them to do this deal and NOT get Fultz.

Sixers need someone to go get buckets. This is your guy. Ben simmons is the point. It's already penciled in

Good move for both organizations imo. Celtics are obviously putting stock in isiah thomas with this move. Plus they need small forward depth. Not gaurd depth.

draft jaylen brown
shop for hayward, PG, and butler

and now they want to move down in the draft to get josh jackson and free up a couple million in cap space?
is the plan to start 3 SF to create a death lineup 2.0?

I would get rid of crowder. He is garbage. Plus plans change when you realize you can't acquire someone. (Hayward or butler). They need a shot blocker and small forward depth imo. Fultz I don't see how he would have fit in with their current roster. They are in a good position now...I wouldn't be too worried. Plus who has more draft picks then them over the next 3 years

Looks like Boston will acquire yet another 1st round pick with this deal.

On the other hand, I'm not sure I'd make this move.

Fultz looks Sooooo good....

and the celtics will activate Ante Zezic .. he is all the big they will need .. in a few seasons will the perfect Center
with ho the nba is played nowadays.. brilliant move drafting zezic .. plus they have yabusele (spelling) and they have a swing forward also
that is pretty damn good.. those are three really nice pieces .. well zezic for certain.. Yabu probably and the arab dude looks decent ..

they have a bright future anyway you slice it amazing job accumulating assets throwing all the talent against a wall and seeing what sticks..

having said that , Fultz ability to get shot off , create own shot off dribble is very advanced for his age and experience level and to me that
is what celtics need most a scorer that can create on his own.. fultz creates own shot off dribble and screen in a variety of ways and its by design he has several patented moves he goes too
